Injectable Neurotoxins

At New Direction, we offer three different types of injectable toxins, including:

• Botox
• Xeomin
• Dysport

Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport work by freezing facial muscles responsible for forming lines and wrinkles on the face. These products are injected with a fine needle in a procedure that takes only a few minutes to complete. The injections freeze muscle activity, relaxing the targeted facial muscles to minimize wrinkles that have appeared due to repeated facial expressions.

Botox

Botox is a brand name for a product made from a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. Botox treats mild to moderate wrinkle types, including laugh lines, lip lines, forehead wrinkles, and crow’s feet. The product works by blocking signals from the nerves to the muscles, causing wrinkles to soften and relax. Botox can take approximately one week to show effects once completed, lasting about three to four months before repeat treatments.

Xeomin

Xeomin is another brand name for a product similar to Botox. Xeomin smooths wrinkles around the eyes, forehead, and eyebrows. Like Botox, it blocks signals from the nerves to muscles, causing them to soften over time. Compared to Botox, Xeomin is slightly less likely to cause an allergic reaction because it has fewer fillers, making it a good choice for people sensitive to medications.

Dysport

Dysport is another type of injection for temporary improvement in the look of frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults less than 65 years of age. Whereas Botox is used to correct mild to moderate lines, Dysport is used to correct moderate to severe lines. Compared to Botox, Dysport also works faster, causing a reduction in wrinkles in just a few days.

What to Expect

The procedure is relatively painless, as your skin is numbed beforehand by applying an anesthetic called BLT cream directly to the skin. You’ll be asked not to lie down for 2-4 hours after the procedure and not to rub the area for 24 hours.

Once the procedure is complete, ice can be applied to keep the swelling down and help prevent bruising, although it is usually unnecessary.

Dermal Filler Injections

Dermal fillers are a nonsurgical cosmetic procedure administered through an injection just under the skin. Fillers can help plump the skin to soften or eliminate wrinkles, restore volume, and smooth lines and creases in your face, jawline, and lips.

• Restylane

All three of these products contain hyaluronic acid filler. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in the body, particularly in the connective tissue of the skin, which means that most patients tolerate these products without an allergic reaction.

What to Expect

When you come to New Direction for dermal filler, we’ll discuss your previous history and experience with toxins and dermal fillers, the type of treatment you are considering, and the risks and benefits of the procedure. We provide local anesthesia using a dental block for dermal and lip filler procedures. The treatment generally takes less than one hour, and you can go home immediately after the appointment ends. Recovery time is less than a day, which means you can return to work right away.

Once the procedure is complete, ice can be applied to keep the swelling down and to help prevent bruising. We also will provide patients with a lip serum because fillers in the lips tend to cause dryness for several days.
